About Our Practice

Roy Creek Psychotherapy is a small counselling and psychotherapy clinic that sits on the banks of Roy Creek, serving the communities of the Comox Valley, and online across BC.

There are two of us, Isaac and Jordan, and while we each bring different training and different ways of being in the therapy room, we share a set of beliefs about our work. These beliefs inform the kind of care you can expect from Roy Creek Psychotherapy.

We are experiential psychotherapists. For us, this means working with our clients to create, explore, and benefit from new experiences in the therapy room. Of course, we know that insight is important for the change process; exploring the what and why, synthesizing new insights, more deeply grasping why we are struggling can be an important part of the change experience. Additionally, experiential therapies aim to complement insight by also focusing on the quality of a person’s experience, how they experience their struggles, their solutions, and in particular their time in the therapy office with their therapist. We believe that insight and new therapeutic experience together are what allow clients to unstick the patterns and ways of feeling that have kept them stuck.

We practice holistically. This means we attend to the whole person, including the mind, body, emotions, behaviour, and relationships, rather than isolating a symptom and treating it as though it exists independently from everything else. The interconnection of these dimensions opens up infinite creative and personal ways for change to take place, and we are always looking for these openings with our clients, collaborating to go where is needed and create change in ways that are relevant for each individual.

We believe healing is possible. We know it to be true. We believe that the right therapeutic conditions—relational safety, genuine curiosity, attuned empathic presence, and the space to have new experiences—combined with compassionate, skilled guidance, can reliably produce real, lasting change even in things that have felt stuck for a long time.

We believe everybody deserves support. No matter what has happened to you, no matter what you have done, and no matter how hopeless or impossible you believe your situation to be, you deserve the kind of compassionate care that heals. We welcome the chance to speak with you about whether one of us would be the right fit for the support you need. If not one of us, we are more than happy to do our best to connect you with a right-fit therapist who can support you.

We work with adults of all ages. We work across a wide range of concerns, including trauma and its lasting effects, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, questions of identity and self-worth, gender and sexual identity, addiction, and significant life transitions. Jordan also works with small groups, offers Dance Movement Therapy for individuals, pairs, and groups, and brings particular depth to work with artists, dancers, and creative communities for whom embodied, movement-based work is a particularly natural fit.

We do not intend that list to be exhaustive. If you are curious whether we would be suited to support you with your particular concerns, please reach out and ask; we would love to hear from you.
